Joyce has been coaching the barbell lifts since 2005 and is the owner of Starting Strength Austin, the world’s first Starting Strength Gym. She has a Masters degree in Sport Psychology, played basketball to the professional level, competed in Olympic Weightlifting, holds a North American record in Kettlebell Sport, and enjoys windsurfing. Joyce has helped hundreds of people get healthy and strong, with her background as an athlete, coach, and a Certified Weightlifting Coach with USAW-eventually leading to her building a barbell club, Luke’s Barbell Club in Austin, Texas, as  Starting Strength Affiliate.  Now she owns the first Starting Strength Gym where she’s building a community of coaches and trainees helping people of all levels and abilities get strong.

    I have been an online client of Joyce’s for about a year and a half. It has been a great experience. She pays a lot of attention to how I’m feeling, physically and emotionally, and modifies my programming accordingly. She always takes time answer any question I have and is always able to explain everything in a way that makes sense without dumbing it down. I struggled for a few years to reach the goals I had set. Within a few months of working under Joyce I achieved them all. She has been so helpful not only to push me when I need to be pushed, but also to give some validation to say it’s ok when you need a little break. Joyce is hands down the best coach around.

    Coach Joyce Luke is a fantastic barbell coach and an excellent programmer for strength gains at every level. I started working with Coach Luke in March of 2018 and I am still working with Coach Luke to this day. Like most, my goals were simple: get stronger and improve form. Coach Luke added weight to all four of my main lifts. She also improved my strength and work capacity on multiple accessory lifts.
    Coach Luke’s programming will keep you adding weight to the bar. She will work with you and find the most optimal amount of gym stress so you continue to make progress. After 15 months her programming continues to produce results and I regularly see PRs in the gym.
    Coach Joyce Luke is an excellent choice to lead you forward on your journey towards greater strength.

    I first began working with Joyce in October of 2018 and she is still my coach today. She programs my workouts, provides excellent feedback on my form, workload, and recovery. I have been training as a powerlifter for 12 years and am an intermediate/advanced lifter (depending on the lift). Joyce’s feedback is excellent. She is a master coach and her feedback enables me to continue to make gains in all my lifts – and do it safely. I am currently on a 4 day/week schedule and she reviews my work promptly so that I can incorporate it into my next training session. I also recently began working with Joyce as an apprentice coach in her Starting Strength club in Austin, Texas and I watch her interact with a wide range of trainees across all ages and body types. She is a gifted coach who cares about the success of her trainees and coaches them individually according to where they are in their training . Joyce works exceptionally well both online and in person. I highly recommend Joyce.

    I’ve been getting coaching from Joyce for just less than a year and it’s been a great decision! The help with all my lifts, and the programming guidance I’ve gotten have been invaluable for my strength development. I highly recommend working with Joyce!

    I have been a client of Joyce for a little over a year. She is a fantastic coach! She has a good eye and is a stickler when it comes to doing the lifts with proper form. She is prompt with her feedback and makes you feel like you are her only client. If you listen to what she says and follow what she programs consistently, you have a recipe for success when it comes to getting strong.

    Working with Joyce was THE best. She matched great with my personality and handled my ups and downs with professionalism and understanding. I made gains I couldn’t have imagined and I always felt that I had a COACH. Her feedback was exactly what I needed and super timely. It was easy to stay on program and when I had issues she helped me through them and we got back on track. I would work with Joyce again in a heartbeat.

    I have worked with Joyce since last autumn. Due to injuries and post-surgery recovery, I don’t think that has been an easy job for her. She has had to constantly change my program to fit my current situation and progress. Joyce has done this in an excellent way, with weekly and even session to session changes in the program if needed. If there are lifts I cannot perform, she focuses on what I can do and we make progress there in stead. My lifts are constantly improving. She is very patient with me and even though I have been frustrated with my situation, she never is. I guess the only thing that would top online coaching by Joyce would have to be training with her in person. I highly recommend working with Joyce!!
